Course Information
The swim course is done by waves in 3 minutes intervals, first the Olympic triathletes, and then Sprint. There will be a break between the Olympic and the sprint waves to allow all Olympic athletes to get onto the 2nd lap before we start the sprint athletes. The bike portion is an out and back on a mix of residential and city area roads. The run is also an out and back that is fairly level terrain mostly on beautiful trails along the river. Everyone will be chip timed, using Championchip timing by Final Time, Inc., with split times also recorded.
Minnesota State Championship Series (MSCS)
State championships in Minnesota are not a new concept, Heart of the Lakes Triathlon has long been considered the “State Championship” and with the announcement earlier this fall of Chisago Lakes "Half" as the new “Long ... Distance State Championship”, we at Gear West Bike & Triathlon felt the time had come for a sanctioned statewide multisport championship series. With the support of Final Stretch inc., Midwest Multisport Series, Midwest Sports Events, Vacation Sports, MinnesotaTriNews.com, Midwest Events, SRAM, and Lazer Helmets, we are proud to announce the Inaugural Minnesota State Championship Series (MSCS). The Series has been developed to allow amateur triathletes to compete head to head with other great amateur athletes from throughout the state, as well as to challenge triathletes to a summer of multisport racing at a variety of distances. This is all in a quest to earn the right to call yourself a state champion. Points Schedule for the MSCS: At each race the points will be awarded to athletes based on how they finished in their respective divisions. 1st: 100 pts Earning Points: An athlete will be competing for points in age divisions or in the "Elite" division, not both. If you start the MSCS series racing in one you cannot switch to the other and keep your points. Age divisions will be the following: 19 and Under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, etc through 65+ for each gender. "Elite Amateur" division consists of the athletes who register for the "elite wave" at the race. Points for the elite amateur division are based on final placing amongst the elite wave athletes. Athletes racing in the elite wave cannot have their points displaced by an age group athlete. The winner of each age group will earn 100 pts. Second place earns 80 pts, etc. Points will be awarded according to the MSCS points table. Elite wave will earn points based on overall placing in the amateur race. Same point schedule is used. Any athlete who is licensed as a "Professional" triathlete or duathlete by USAT will NOT displace any amateurs in the point system in the MSCS. The MSCS is here to highlight the amateur athlete. There is no "Professional" division. Age group athletes will have their points cumulated in the oldest division they race in at any of the MSCS races even though they will earn their points in age group in which they are competing in at each particular race. The points will award an Overall State Champion for each age group as well as elite amateur, for both genders. The Overall State Champion is the athlete who earns the most points in their respective division. Awards: -At each race all athletes who earned 100 points will receive a customized "MN State Champion" bike decal to display with pride. -Each of the"Overall State Champions" who earned points in all four MSCS races will receive half price entry into the following year's MSCS races. -Any "Overall State Champion" who earns 100 pts in all 4 MSCS Races(finishes with 400pts) will receive Free Entry into the following year's MSCS races. -Most valuable will be the pride to have earned the title: “State Champion”. Giveaways: At all 4 MSCS races Gear West Bike & Triathlon will be giving away a pair of SRAM S60 wheels valued at $1,400 as well as the always exciting "Gear West Gear Bag" which is a transition bag filled with more than $500 in race essentials including a Lazer O2 Helmet. The giveaways are open to all participants with the winners drawn at the end of the awards ceremony. Must be present and available to accept the giveaways. Race Awards
